DIRECTV Plus DVR Tips and Tricks

Tip 1: Get to the Guide Quickly
Avoid the Category Sort screen by just pressing GUIDE twice.

Tip 2: Quick Tab Navigation
Jump quickly between tabs, use the RED and GREEN keys to move left and right rather than using the ARROW keys.

Tip 3: Clear Programs from the Playlist
Simply press the DASH key twice on your remote.

Tip 4: Using the RED, GREEN, BLUE and YELLOW Keys
Colored keys on the remote do different things in different places. Look for hints on screens where they are used.

Tip 5: Quick-stepping Through the Guide
Use the RED and GREEN keys to jump 12 hours at a time. If you want to scroll quickly through the channels, use the CHAN UP/DOWN key to jump a page at a time. You can also enter a channel number to jump to it directly. Don't forget you can also press the BLUE key to see the Mini Guide while you're watching TV.

Tip 6: One-touch Recording
Press RECORD any time you're watching a program, or while a program is highlighted in the Guide or any program list. Press it again on an episodic program to record all episodes of that program. Press it a third time on an episodic program, or a second time on a one-time showing, to cancel. The program will be recorded using the current defaults, so if you want to change the recording settings, press INFO on the program to access the Record screen and change the options as you desire.

Tip 7: Ordering Pay Per View Programs
Order Pay Per View three ways:
  • Use your remote (press the INFO key and select the Buy option from the left menu)
  • Call 1-800-531-5000
  • Over the Internet at directv.com
There may be an additional ordering fee for purchases placed over the phone.

Tip 8: The Quick Menu
Press MENU to display the Quick Menu. This menu changes depending on where you are, so you always see the most useful options at the time. Try pressing MENU while watching TV, in the Guide and over the Playlist to see the many useful options available.

Tip 9: Watch for Icons
Icons are used throughout the DIRECTV interface to provide subtle information about what's going on.
  • In the Channel Banner, the Lock icon lets you know whether the receiver is locked, temporarily unlocked or unlocked
  • The Message icon informs you when there are unread messages in your Inbox
  • The Audio icon tells you when alternate language tracks are available
  • In the Guide, there are icons for Letterbox (widescreen) format programs, All Day Ticket Pay Per View programs, Dolby Digital audio and programs
  • Some screens will show colored dots that correspond to special features provided by the RED, GREEN, BLUE and YELLOW keys
